WK4 SLJ - Activity 1,2 & 3 (D4)

Activity 1: Moana
In late 2016, the movie Moana was released by Disney. It’s a beautiful story about a young Polynesian girl from the fictional island of Motunui, who goes on a big adventure.

Watch the trailer for Moana and then write a summary of the movie on your blog. If you’ve seen the movie, you can include your favourite part! Tell us as much as you can about the movie. What is it about? Who are the main characters in the movie? What do they do in the movie? Where do they go?

Main characters:
Moana
Maui
Grandma Tala
Cheif Tui
Hei Hei
and Teka

Summary:

One day a mysterious issue occured on the island of Motu Nui. It turns out a demi god named Maui had stole the heart of Te Fiti. This heart was what was keeping every island, ocean, and nature together. But since Maui had stole it, Moana knew she had to get it back. But as Moana sails along the ocean to find the heart she ends up stranded, on a small island. On that island was Maui, after a long time of arguing they finally came to an agreement. So together they sailed across the ocean to find the heart of Te Fiti. Along the way they faced monsters. Each obstacle that got in their way only bought them closer together. But in the end they fight a huge monster named Teka.
Moana realises that the heart belongs to Teka and so she should find some way to restore it.
Once they come close together, Moana places the heart in Teka's chest and her normal being comes back to life. This resolves to the islands also returning to how they used to be.
Moana returns to her family and the story ends happily.

Activity 2: Country Calendar

Did you know that the longest running television show in New Zealand history is a programme called ‘Country Calendar’? It started on 6 March 1966 and has been running ever since. The programme includes stories of everyday New Zealanders, many of whom are farmers.

Watch this short clip from Country Calendar. What do you think would be the most interesting and/or challenging things about being a farmer? Would you would like to be a farmer when you are older. Why/why not? Give us, at least, two reasons to support your answer.

Interesting Things:
I found it interesting how they used animals such as horses to replace the use of machines. Due to steep hills, machines could not be used. So instead horses were used as a replacment. It's pretty smart of them to think that. I also found it interesting how long they've been doing this. 40 years is pretty long.

Challenging Things:
Planting crops, shaving sheep, gathering livestock, and harvesting crops.

Actvitiy 3: Singing a Different Tune

A number of New Zealand (NZ) singers and songwriters have recently burst onto the music scene, becoming popular both in NZ and overseas. One of these artists, Lorde, is gaining a lot of recognition for her unique style and songwriting ability. People all over the world seem to really like the lyrics (words) that she writes in her songs.

Think of your favourite song. Share the name of the song, the name of the person who wrote the song and the lyrics from the song on your blog. You must type the lyrics not cut and paste them in order to earn full points for the activity.

Song: Fire
People who wrote it: Kim Namjoon, Min Yoongi, and Bang Shi-Hyuk

Lyrics:

When I wake up in my room, I have nothing
After the sun sets, I sway as I walk
I'm completely drunk,drunk
I'm swearing on the streets
I've lost it, I'm like a crazy guy
Everything's a mess, livin'like

Live however you want, it's yours anyway
Stop trying, it's okay to lose
Errbody say La la la la (la la la la la)
Say La la la la la (La la la la la)
THrow your hands up, scream, burn it up
It's on fire

(Eh eh oh eh oh)
Set everything on fire, bow wow wow
(Eh eh oh eh oh)
Set everything on fire, bow wow wow

Hey, burn it up like you're gonna set everything on fire
Hey, turn it up until the dawn is gone
Just live because we're young
Who are you to compare me with others?
I'm only human
(So what)

Live however you want, it's yours anyway
Stop trying, it's okay to lose
Errbody say La la la la (La la la la la)
Say La la la la la (La la la la la)
Throw your hands up, scream, burn it up
It's on fire

(Eh eh oh eh oh)
Set everything onfire, bow wow wow
(Eh eh oh eh oh)
Set everything on fire, bow wow wow

(Fire) All you with a lot of fear, come here
(Fire) All you who are suffereing, come here
(Fire) Lift up your fist, all night long
(Fire) With marching footsteps
(Fire) Run and go crazy

Set everything on fire, bow wow wow
Set everything on fire, bow wow wow

(Fire Fire)
Set everything on fire, bow wow wow
(Fire Fire)
Set everything on fire, bow wow wow
(Fire Fire)
Set everything on fire, bow wow wow

I'll forgive you

  1. Hi Davarni,

Good work on your summary. It is very formal and very long. Well done!

I have never heard that song before. My favourite lyrics of the song is the sentence 'Live however you want, its yours anyway'. I think it means just to live life how you want it to be, meaning you are free! I love it

Keep up the work! One more day and you're finished. Hope you are having an amazing rest of your holiday!

  3. Hi Davarni,

In regards to the "Singing a Different Tune" section of your post, I found your song choice to be a very good one! Sounds like a call to live life with a sense rebellion (for lack of a better word) in there.

    Great work!

    1. Hi Willy,

You've got it excatly right, the song talks about being who you really are and not caring what anyone says. Thanks for the caring comment.

  7. Kia ora Davarni!

As always, fabulous work on these tasks! Your summary of 'Moana' is very good. A I was reading through, I was replaying those parts of the movie in my head. I loved Moana and my favourite character is definitely Moana, but I also like Heihei the chicken because I think he adds lots of humour and silly-ness to the movie. What was your favourite part of the movie?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts about farming. Forty years is a long time of showing 'Country Calendar', and New Zealander's have been farming even longer than that! I used to live on a farm and I loved the lifestyle. You're right, gathering livestock and shearing sheep are challenging tasks! Animals don't always want to go where you want them to go! I was only young so I watched the men shearing the sheep and it is tough! Do you think you would ever give it a go?

    Nicky :)
